FAQ's

About Our Socks

What makes NYG different from other compression socks?

Three things:

  • They were designed by someone who lives with chronic illness
  • Feather-soft, sensory-friendly fabric
  • Easy to put on and comfortable all day
  • Bold, joyful designs that don’t look medical

Most compression socks are stiff, itchy, or dull. Ours are made to feel good and look good — because you shouldn’t have to choose.

Will they help with POTS, swelling, or dizziness?

Many customers wear our socks to support symptoms like swelling, dizziness, fatigue, and blood pooling.

We don’t make exaggerated claims. What we can say is this: over 17,000 customers trust NYG for everyday relief, and thousands of reviews speak for themselves.

If compression has helped you before, ours are designed to make it wearable.

What level of compression are your socks?

Our socks offer 15–20 mmHg graduated compression.

That’s the sweet spot for daily wear. It’s strong enough to help with swelling, fatigue, dizziness, and heavy legs — but gentle enough to stay comfortable all day.

Supportive, not suffocating.

What does graduated compression mean?

It simply means the compression is firmer at the ankle and gradually eases up the leg.

This helps encourage healthy circulation and reduces that heavy, pooled feeling in your lower legs.

No science lecture required. Just smarter support.

Who are NYG socks for?

Anyone whose legs need a little help.

That includes people who:

  • Live with chronic conditions like POTS, EDS, autoimmune conditions
  • Are pregnant or postpartum
  • Work long shifts on their feet
  • Sit for long hours
  • Travel frequently
  • Deal with swelling, dizziness, or tired legs

You don’t need a diagnosis to deserve comfort.

Do I need a medical condition to wear compression socks?

No.

Compression supports everyday bodies. If your legs feel heavy, swollen, or tired, that’s reason enough.

Support isn’t reserved for a label.

Are they medical-grade?

Our compression socks offer light compression of 15-20 mmHg. While they offer benefits such as pain and swelling relief, they are not considered medical-grade.

We don’t design our socks to feel clinical or stiff. They’re made to be wearable, breathable, and genuinely comfortable.

Real support. No hospital vibes.

If you need higher compression, please consult your doctor.

Are they hard to put on?

No wrestling required.

Compression socks do require more effort to put on than regular socks - that's the nature of compression.

However, our socks are designed to be as manageable as possible with soft, flexible fabric that has some give.

Many customers find them easier to put on than medical-grade compression socks, but they still require a bit of technique. We recommend:

  • Putting them on first thing in the morning before any swelling occurs
  • Turning them inside out to your heel, then rolling up
  • Taking your time and working them up gradually

If you have limited mobility or grip strength, you may want to consider using a sock aid or asking for assistance.

Are they suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes.

Our socks are made with soft, breathable fabric and designed without harsh seams or tight cuffs. Many customers with sensory sensitivities tell us they’re the first compression socks they’ve been able to wear comfortably.

Comfort first. Always.

Sizing & Fit

What size are your socks?

Our socks are currently one-size-fits-most, designed to fit:

  • UK shoe sizes 3-14
  • Foot length: 22-31.3cm (8⅔-12⅓ inches)
  • Maximum calf circumference: 15 inches (38.1cm)
  • Length between knee and ankle: 15-15.5 inches (38.1-39.3cm)

The stretch and weave allow the socks to adapt to different leg shapes without digging in or rolling down.

We're working on offering more size options. If you'd like to be notified when they're available, join our waitlist here.

Will they fit if I have larger calves or swelling?

Our socks were stretch-tested on real customers and designed with fluctuating bodies in mind.

They're soft and flexible, not rigid, and can comfortably accommodate some swelling and fuller calves within our size range (up to 15 inches/38.1cm calf circumference).

If your measurements fall outside our current size range, we'd recommend joining our waitlist to be notified when more size options become available.

If you're unsure about fit, our support team is always happy to help at hello@notyourgrandmas.co.uk.

Will they roll down?

When the socks fit correctly and are worn properly, they're designed to stay in place without digging in.

If your socks are rolling down, this usually indicates a fit issue - they may be too large for your leg measurements.

Check our size chart to confirm your measurements fall within our range.

If you're at the lower or upper end of our sizing, the fit may not be secure enough to prevent slipping.

If you're within our size range and experiencing rolling, reach out to hello@notyourgrandmas.co.uk and we'll help troubleshoot.

Can I wear your socks with other socks?

We don't recommend layering our socks with other socks. When socks are worn together, the friction between the materials can cause fibres to catch and felt together - meaning they essentially bond or merge with each other.

This is a natural result of the materials interacting, not a product defect, but it makes the socks difficult or impossible to separate and can leave fibres from one sock stuck to the other.

For best results and longevity, wear our compression socks on their own.

Comfort & Care

How long can I wear them?

They’re designed for all-day wear.

Many customers wear them during long shifts, travel days, flare days, or whenever their legs need extra support.

Listen to your body and wear them in a way that feels good for you.

Can I sleep in them?

Unless a healthcare professional has advised otherwise, compression is generally worn during the day when upright and removed at night.

If you’re unsure, it’s always best to check with your GP or specialist.

How do I wash them?
  • Wash inside out at 30°C
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Air dry to maintain elasticity

Looking after them properly helps maintain compression and softness.

How long do they last?

With proper care, your socks should maintain their compression and shape for many months of regular wear.

Unlike cheaper alternatives, they’re made to be worn — and re-worn — not abandoned at the back of a drawer.

Do they bobble?

Sometimes you get bobbles because there are loose fibres in the socks. It’s what makes them extra soft. It's similar to when you get a new tracksuit, and the inside is soft, and it goes into piles as you wear it.

While it doesn't affect the quality, if you want your socks to stay looking tip-top, you can use a bobble remover.

This will remove the excess bits without damaging your socks. We find that a disposable razor can work as well.

Can the socks leave marks on my legs?

It's quite normal for our socks to leave a mark on your legs, that's because the design is actually stitched in the fabric, rather than printed on it.

These marks typically fade within a short time after removing the socks.

Some customers find certain patterns leave less of an impression than others, and how noticeable the marks are can also vary depending on individual skin sensitivity.
