Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between NYG compression socks and other brands? +

Most compression socks are stiff, clinical, and a pain to wear. NYG socks are the opposite—feather-soft, easy to put on, and actually stylish. We use real compression (15–20 mmHg) that supports tired legs, swollen ankles, and dizzy days—without the squeeze fight. Designed by people who’ve been there.

What do compression socks feel like?+

They are 15 – 20 mmHg, which means that they are a light compression. This is usually more than enough for people looking for pain relief and reduction in dizziness; however, if you have been prescribed a specific compression level you should follow your doctor’s guidance.

What size are NYG compression socks? +

At the moment we only do one size of compression sock. They are between UK 3–14 (foot length 22-31.3cm). Just click on the 'size chart' button above the add to cart button.)

The maximum calf size is 15 inches (circumference). You can use the size chart to check that they will fit you.We are committed to offering inclusive, unisex compression socks but the world of sizing hasn’t yet caught up.

For the purposes of this chart we've used what would normally be referred to as "women's" shoe sizes. If you typically wear men's shoes or have wider feet, we recommend using the foot length as a guide.

If you are looking for a larger size compression sock we don’t currently have these but you can sign up to the plus size waitlist and will be notified when we increase the size range.

Are NYG compression socks easy to put on?+

Yes—NYG socks are designed to be easy to put on, even with limited mobility or low energy. The soft, stretchy fabric slides on without a fight—no tugging, no wrestling, no tight cuffs. Support that works with your body, not against it.

How long can I wear NYG compression socks for?+

You can wear them for long stretches—some people even wear them in bed. But we recommend giving your legs a break overnight unless your doctor says otherwise.

Don’t wear the same pair more than a day. Swap them out daily and wash before re-wearing to keep the compression doing its job.

If you’re new to compression (especially with POTS), start slow—try an hour at first, then build up. Some bodies need a bit of time to adjust. That’s totally normal.

Can I wear these socks for long-haul flights?+

Yes, our compression socks are perfect for long flights! They help improve circulation, reduce swelling, and prevent discomfort during long periods of sitting.

Can I wear these socks if I have diabetes, varicose veins, or edema?+

Yes, NYG socks offer gentle 15–20 mmHg compression, which is often suitable for people with diabetes, varicose veins, or mild edema. They’re soft, non-restrictive, and easy to wear, even on sensitive days. That said, if you have medical concerns, it’s always best to check with your doctor first.

How do I care for NYG compression socks?+

For best long-term results, wash at 30 degrees, with similar colours, do not tumble try. Wash them after each use, i.e. do not use them on consecutive days without washing them first. Turn inside out before washing. Avoid bleech and fabric softner.

Bought these for a return flight on doctor’s orders after having surgery. They are cute and snuggly and feel much more durable and better quality than other compression socks I’ve used in the past. I even made friends with another passenger on our return flight as she had some NYGs on too!

Perfect fit and even have a picture of my dog on them! Really helping with dizziness and swelling associated with pregnancy.

  2. Tracey Binnie (verified owner)

I’m seriously impressed with my dog compression socks. They’re super cute with great compression and wash really well.

  3. Naomi (verified owner)

Fun design and far from the usual NHS issued compression socks given when your in hospital. I love the fun designs and they’re so unique as I haven’t found anywhere else that sells compression socks as fun as these. They do help my symptoms a little but I think that if I wasn’t so petite that the socks would be more snug around my legs and may offer possibly more compression sock benefits. It would be helpful if different sizes where offered.

Very pleased with my purchase. These socks make me feel less embarrassed by my chronic health problems as they make me look funky as opposed to frumpy. Very comfortable to wear too. Thank you!

  11. Helen Lovelady (verified owner)

These are great, no more cankles after a 12 hour shift!

  12. Freya Hilder-Morris (verified owner)

As a nurse, I work 12 5 hour shifts so compression socks are a must. However as a nurse with autism, I need something not too constricting and these are incredibly soft and still do the job! Also, I love dogs so who could say no?!

  13. Carole Atkinson (verified owner)

When I first ordered these socks, I was attracted to the refreshing, fun compression socks as opposed to the old lady ones, or sports socks. Because I’ve got Deep vein thrombosis in my left leg, I was doubtful it would ever return to normal. This hot weather doesn’t help with hospital material ones. I was told to get Class 2 only, but these socks, within only a couple of weeks have reduced the swelling and some of the discolouration caused by the Apixaban, blood thinners.
They are great and Hannah is very helpful.

  14. Angela Gray (verified owner)

Love these compression socks. Actually found socks that fit a 5’4″ person without having to fold over behind the knee! Fit perfectly, lovely and soft and ace designs. My only negative comment would be I wish they were a little cheaper!

  15. Louise Scale (verified owner)

I got these for my mum who needs compression on a healing wound and she could not get on with the nasty nylon things the hospital provided. These are jolly, comfy and do the job. I only wish they were just a little longer to cover the knee to avoid the champagne bottle effect that happens when you carry water in your tissues. But otherwise, they are great.

  16. Fiona Maguire (verified owner)

Have wore them all this week at work and noticed a difference in my legs throughout the week. Just enough compression without digging into your leg. Highly recommend and have already told colleagues

  17. Jan Harrison (verified owner)

Bought these for my daughter and myself for long haul travel and they worked perfectly. Cabin crew remarked how lovely the socks looked and they were comfortable and pretty to wear. Love the dog faces!! These socks are as comfortable and stylish as they are effective at compression.
