Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between NYG compression socks and other brands? +

Most compression socks are stiff, clinical, and a pain to wear. NYG socks are the opposite—feather-soft, easy to put on, and actually stylish. We use real compression (15–20 mmHg) that supports tired legs, swollen ankles, and dizzy days—without the squeeze fight. Designed by people who’ve been there.

What do compression socks feel like?+

They are 15 – 20 mmHg, which means that they are a light compression. This is usually more than enough for people looking for pain relief and reduction in dizziness; however, if you have been prescribed a specific compression level you should follow your doctor’s guidance.

What size are NYG compression socks? +

At the moment we only do one size of compression sock. They are between UK 3–14 (foot length 22-31.3cm). Just click on the 'size chart' button above the add to cart button.)

The maximum calf size is 15 inches (circumference). You can use the size chart to check that they will fit you.We are committed to offering inclusive, unisex compression socks but the world of sizing hasn’t yet caught up.

For the purposes of this chart we've used what would normally be referred to as "women's" shoe sizes. If you typically wear men's shoes or have wider feet, we recommend using the foot length as a guide.

If you are looking for a larger size compression sock we don’t currently have these but you can sign up to the plus size waitlist and will be notified when we increase the size range.

Are NYG compression socks easy to put on?+

Yes—NYG socks are designed to be easy to put on, even with limited mobility or low energy. The soft, stretchy fabric slides on without a fight—no tugging, no wrestling, no tight cuffs. Support that works with your body, not against it.

How long can I wear NYG compression socks for?+

You can wear them for long stretches—some people even wear them in bed. But we recommend giving your legs a break overnight unless your doctor says otherwise.

Don’t wear the same pair more than a day. Swap them out daily and wash before re-wearing to keep the compression doing its job.

If you’re new to compression (especially with POTS), start slow—try an hour at first, then build up. Some bodies need a bit of time to adjust. That’s totally normal.

Can I wear these socks for long-haul flights?+

Yes, our compression socks are perfect for long flights! They help improve circulation, reduce swelling, and prevent discomfort during long periods of sitting.

Can I wear these socks if I have diabetes, varicose veins, or edema?+

Yes, NYG socks offer gentle 15–20 mmHg compression, which is often suitable for people with diabetes, varicose veins, or mild edema. They’re soft, non-restrictive, and easy to wear, even on sensitive days. That said, if you have medical concerns, it’s always best to check with your doctor first.

How do I care for NYG compression socks?+

For best long-term results, wash at 30 degrees, with similar colours, do not tumble try. Wash them after each use, i.e. do not use them on consecutive days without washing them first. Turn inside out before washing. Avoid bleech and fabric softner.

I bought the socks after reading a lot of reviews and in a search of compression socks that are comfortable to wear. I’m a pharmacist and I’m on my feet all day long so I developed some varicose veins. Sometimes my ankles get swollen. I tried long compression socks from different companies (not cheap ones) and they help but I feel some itching and the silicone dots on top sometimes make me develop small bruises or just fall down my legs so I end up not wearing them. With Not your grandma’s I think I finally found compression socks that are soft on the skin and don’t make me wanna scratch. They stay in their place all day long and I don’t feel the need to remove them asap. The compression is enough for prophylaxis. My advice to you – do include some options for white socks without any pictures for us pharmacists and also nurses. As much as I like the happy patterns and colors, my boss wants me to wear white at work. Sometimes I also need a more minimalistic style of clothing. Do include a more boring line with some monochrome choices to choose from – like pure white, off white, beige, black, grey, etc.

These were bought for my daughter. She loves the different designs. They are also a great length as she is tall. Very soft and comfortable too.

  3. OB

  4. IE

  5. JJ

I know own 14 pairs of these socks and this cute cactus design is just the latest to my collection. I cannot recommend these more as these are all I wear. I’ve bought as many as I have so that when I’m unable to do washing, I know I have plenty clean until I can do my next load. I have ME/CFS with dysautonomia and a whole host of other complications. My cardiologist recommended compression socks but the ones I found were so expensive and clinical. I couldn’t stand the idea of being stuck in them. I’d never worn or really owned ‘fun’ socks before and I don’t think I can ever go back now. My legs feel so much less heavier, blood no longer pools in my feet, my ankles are in less pain and every time I see my feet I smile!
